I set about making a new piece of work on Hay Bluff, the northern tip of the Black mountains which straddles the border between South East Wales and England. I’m using a new set of decorators cutting-in brushes and a new tube of Cobalt green, inspirational.
Drove to Mynydd Illtud Common on a sunny, windy winters day. Pitched our tents opposite Pen-Y-Fan. Leant my 100 x 100cm canvas against the tent and worked for the first time with my new (Belton Moloton) spray paints and indian inks. Most of the paint went on the canvas and tent, but there was a freedom in working this way.
A typical painting day
The weather and light can change moment by moment, we need to work fast. Today the sun suddenly breaks through to cast a single patch of gold onto the folded hills, and we watch as it moves across and up the flank of Pen-Y-Fan.
